When Artists for the Arts (AFTA) was formed in 2002, we were met with immediate enthusiasm and support. Dozens of volunteers helped get AFTA off the ground, including visual artists, authors, performing artists, singers and songwriters, as well as event planners, nonprofit experts and others with skills and energy to lend.
The community support, expertise and experience we received from 2002 to 2005 inspired us to reach further, developing and preparing for the 2007 launch of our SHARE Program. This program represents a turning point for AFTA, enabling us to focus on providing uniquely flexible and accessible means for artists, businesses and individual arts advocates to help direct revenue and awareness for arts and music to local schools.
Throughout these exciting changes, we wish to acknowledge our early accomplishments and express our deepest gratitude to the friends and supporters who made all of this possible in our fledgling years:
In 2005-2006, funded 31 arts programs at 26 schools in 7 districts in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties, many in supportive collaborations with other local arts and community organizations.
Received nearly $100,000 in in-kind services from musicians, production companies and performance venues
Received more than $30,000 in contributed income from businesses, charitable organizations and individuals
Developed key partnerships with local arts groups
